Q. What is the best variety of soybean?<\/h4><\/div>
\n

A. <\/strong>The best variety of soybeans is determined based on your farm objectives, your geographic area, and the type of soil in which the soybeans will be planted. Your representative will help you make the best choice for your needs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A.<\/strong> Each year, Prograin adds new soybean varieties to its portfolio. Look for the \u201cNew\u201d mention in our Seed Guide<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Q. When is the best time for planting soybeans?<\/h4><\/div>

A. <\/strong>Our agronomists recommend planting the seeds once the soil temperature has reached 10\u00b0C (or higher) and once the conditions are suitable for machinery and the risks of frost are eliminated.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Q. Why do some soybean varieties have green stems at harvest time?<\/h4><\/div>

A.<\/strong> The stems of some varieties remain alive and healthy longer in season, and that is, until harvesting. Patience is required in such cases. Q. Is it necessary to respect the recommended seeding rates?<\/h4><\/div>

A. <\/strong>To achieve optimal yield, our experts have determined seeding rates meant to provide optimal field population for each soybean variety based on factors such as plant physiology, growing season, and row spacing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Q. Why use certified seeds? <\/h4><\/div>

A.<\/strong> Certified seeds offer several benefits. In general, they offer full traceability as well as better resistance to pests and diseases. They also guarantee varietal purity, a specific germination rate, and superior quality. As a matter of fact, all seed production fields must be inspected before harvest.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Q. Can conventional soybeans be planted in fields used for GMO soybean production the previous year?<\/h4><\/div>

A.<\/strong> No. Planting conventional (non-GMO) soybeans in fields used for GMO soybeans the previous year involves a high risk of contamination. It is generally not recommended to plant soybeans in the same field for two consecutive years.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Q. Is it mandatory to sign a production agreement for soybeans intended for human consumption?<\/h4><\/div>

A. <\/strong>Yes. This agreement will be converted to a crop purchase agreement. Prograin buys back 100 % of the growers\u2019 crops, regardless of yield. <\/a>This allows us to better forecast soybean crop quantities and to better manage inventories. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Q. Do variety premiums for soybeans intended for human consumption change throughout the year?<\/h4><\/div>

A. <\/strong>No. Prograin\u2019s premiums awarded for each of the varieties intended for human consumption are set for an entire year. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Q. As a producer, when can we deliver our conventional soybean crops?<\/h4><\/div>
\n

A.<\/strong> The producer decides, upon signing the production agreement, whether the crops will be delivered in fall or stored on farm for winter. Soybean crops are delivered according to the type of agreement (fall delivery or winter storage).

Q. What does \u201cunstained soybean\u201d refer to exactly?<\/h4><\/div>

A. <\/strong>Soybeans are accepted up to slightly stained. Only a certified grader can provide an opinion on the general appearance of the crops to be delivered. If in doubt, do not hesitate to take a sample and contact one of Prograin\u2019s authorized representatives for advice. The representative will be able to check with one of our graders.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
