The development of new high-performance cultivars is one of the company’s fundamental goals.
We have implemented a soybean genetic improvement program that has enabled us to develop our own private soybean varieties since 1986. This program has been one of the top performers in Canada, with more than a hundred registered varieties in the country and throughout the world.
As part of our research and development program, we focus our efforts on highly specialized soybean seeds that have the desired characteristics in terms of agronomy and human consumption. Our strength mainly lies in the development of high-performing early maturing varieties with high protein levels.
Every year, we evaluate tens of thousands of varieties across 175 hectares of land dedicated to research at our farm located in the heart of Quebec’s most productive farmland.
For the past 15 years, we have been using a breeding nursery in South America (Chile and Argentina) to develop our cultivars as quickly as possible.
Prograin evaluates the genetic material of these varieties at some thirty sites throughout the world, including Eastern and Western Canada and Eastern and Western Europe.
Through strategic partnerships that offer us access to biotechnological advances, we apply the most recent discoveries to our high-performance soybean line.
Each year, we evaluate tens of thousands of soybean varieties. For this purpose, we have a molecular genetics laboratory that features the same equipment and meets the same standards as those of the largest multinational companies.
We believe that technology means added value for farmers, and we are doing everything we can to make it work for them.
Genotyping allows us to track soybean genes of interest. This exceptional tool allows us to develop new cultivars with the desired traits more quickly and more efficiently, which in turn allows us to make them available to farmers more quickly.
In 2011, we opened our state-of-the-art research centre, in which we invested 1.3 million dollars for the construction of a genotyping laboratory, a food quality laboratory, a dry laboratory, and two interior growth chambers.
With our team of genetic improvement experts, we are ready and committed to developing the best genetics for soybeans, including early maturing soybean varieties.
